Event Summary :

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), India's premier apex chamber covers a membership of over 4 lakh companies and professionals across the country. It was established in 1920 by promoter chambers, representing all regions of India. As an apex industry body, ASSOCHAM represents the interests of Industry and trade, interfaces with Government on policy issues and interacts with counterpart international organizations to promote bilateral economic issues. ASSOCHAM is represented on all national and local bodies and is, thus, able to pro-actively convey industry view points, as also communicate and debate issues relating to public-private partnerships for economic development.

On 8th of July 2014 ASSOCHAM organised a National Level Workshop on Drafting Commercial Agreements in New Delhi. Various Corporate Legal counsel, law officers, Company Secretaries, lawyers attended the above said workshop. Hon’ble Justice Mr. S. K. Agarwal was the Chief Guest and the Senior Partner Mr. S. Ravi Shankar was the Guest of Honour of the Opening Ceremony.

The objective of the above said contract was to help members and participants to make aware of the latest trends and developments in contract law. The conference more concentrated on the international issues than the national issues. Due to increasing international business contracts, companies require a reasonable understanding of the drafting of the International contracts.

After the opening ceremony various eminent lawyers and experts delivered heir informative presentations. Mr. S. Ravi Shankar made a presentation on "How to draft effective International Arbitration Agreements?" He explained all the details "Do's and Don'ts" in drafting an International Arbitration agreement. He explained various land mark Judgments from various Jurisdictions of the World to make the participants understand all the points. He also explained the importance of mentioning the "law applicable to the arbitration clause" in addition to "Seat of arbitration" and "law governing the contract" in the international arbitration clauses.

In addition to that various speakers made their presentations on various dimensions of Drafting of Contracts.

He explained all "Do's and Don'ts" in drafting an International Arbitration agreement.
