Event Summary :

On 3rd April 2014 Federation of Indian Export organisations (FIEO) set up by Ministry of Commerce – Government of India organised a work shop on Legally Effective Letters of Credit (LC) and how to deal with a discrepant L/C under UCPDC 600, since many exporters end up in difficulties due to discrepancies in the export documents and consequential rejection by the bank of the buyer. The above said program was organized in Delhi in the conference room situated in NIRYAT Bhavan, New Delhi.

Mr. Ravi Shankar a Supreme Court corporate lawyer and a Senior Partner of Law Senate law firm was invited to conduct the above said work shop. There were participants from various export houses in and around Delhi. Mr. S Ravi Shankar explained all the legal pre-cautions to be kept in mind while negotiating the LC and also while preparing the export documentation. He also explained the points which are to be kept in mind as per UCPDC 600 while examining the export documents in the light of the terms mentioned in the Letter of Credit. He also elaborately dealt with various aspects of international contracts and International banking practices while handling Letters of Credit. He also dealt with the dispute resolution including International arbitrations. He gave many examples from the cases handled by the law senate law firm.

The above said workshop was attended by various business houses who are doing export and import business. The above said work shop was chaired by Mr. T S Ahluwalia, FIEO Managing Committee member. Mr Ahluwalia also shared his experiences in preparing the exports documentation. Ms. Priya Safaya from FIEO also shared her experiences in the field of Letters of Credit. Ms. Priya Safaya thanked Mr. S Ravi Shankar for the success of the above said work shop and also stated that the participants were very happy about the program. She also stated that FIEO would be happy to make use of the expertise of Mr. Shankar in their future workshops also.
