International Arbitration Community Welcomes Audley Sheppard KC as the New ICCA President

Audley Sheppard KC has officially taken over as President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), marking an important leadership change within one of the most respected global arbitration organisations.

The transition took place during the ICCA Congress held in Madrid, where outgoing President Dr. Stanimir Alexandrov formally passed on the role. Sheppard is widely recognised in the international arbitration community and has spent decades working on complex commercial and investment disputes across different jurisdictions. Before assuming the presidency, he had already been closely associated with ICCA through several leadership and governing positions.

ICCA plays a significant role in shaping discussions around international arbitration, dispute resolution, and cooperation between legal systems around the world. Its conferences, publications, and working groups are regularly followed by lawyers, arbitrators, judges, academics, and multinational businesses involved in cross-border disputes.

Following his appointment, Sheppard stated that he hopes to continue strengthening ICCA’s work while encouraging broader collaboration within the global arbitration community.

The development comes at a time when international arbitration is becoming increasingly important for resolving commercial and investment disputes involving businesses, States, and multinational stakeholders across jurisdictions worldwide today.
