The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and promote international arbitration as a preferred method for resolving cross-border commercial disputes.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Singapore by Gloria Lim, Chief Executive Officer, SIAC, and Datuk Danesh Chandran, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, AIAC. Witnesses to the same were Singapore Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong SC and Malaysia’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman.
The partnership is basically a step to improve cooperation between the two leading arbitral institutions. Under the MoU, SIAC and AIAC will jointly organise conferences, seminars and workshops on international arbitration in both Singapore as well as Malaysia. The institutions will also encourage participation from members of their respective arbitration communities by inviting them to attend and contribute to events hosted by either organisation.
This collaboration also reflects a shared commitment to raise awareness, strengthening relationships between institutions and supporting continued growth of international arbitration across the region through knowledge-sharing and institutional cooperation.
