HKIAC Has Released Its 2025 Statistics Portraying Steady Growth in High Value and Cross-Border Disputes

The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre(HKIAC) has released its data and statistics for 2025 reflecting on a large number of cases and more international participation. 582 new matters were filed in total. Arbitration mostly continued to create a load of work with 388 cases being registered with a few mediations and other disputes as to domain name. 

Parties from 61 jurisdictions actively participated and more than 84% of the arbitrations involved at least one party which was not from Hong Kong. The total value of disputes handled by HKIAC reached $126.2 billion. HKIAC administered most of the arbitrations which alone accounted for $117.7 billion.

The most common types of disputes were related corporate and shareholding matters, followed by cases as to maritime and sale of goods. Mostly, all the arbitrations were seated in Hong Kong, which was also the governing law chosen most often. 

HKIAC also made 176 appointments of arbitrators this past year, with over one third of the appointments to be of women. Emergency arbitration was also active, which portrait the continuous demand for urgent relief. Overall, the statistics reflect arise in the activity and the international confidence in HKIAC.
